Andrew Lisi, originally from Springs, NY, is an artist based in Seattle, WA. His preferred medium include acrylic and other mixed mediums. His work is influenced by abstract expressionism, pop art, and Dada. Andrew's art is in conversation with the subconscious mind, and an acceptance of internal and external achievements of success and error. Using bold colors, Andrew is influenced by the outside world of everyday exploration. His paintings represent a creative path on that journey.
Why same? Signing his work "same" is an invite for the viewer to make one's own assumptions. To the artist, same represents two parallel realities. First, same is a universal search for identity and individualism in a society that supresses such intent. Second, same is a striving for community, of a like-minded society where conformity is rewarded. We are all same.
An example of same, from the artist, regarding the above statement:
An artist statement is important for an emerging artist. It presents a blank canvas to craft a statement of intent, of causation, of explanation, of expression. same. And yet artist statements are soon forgotten, while acting as a baseline requirement to state one’s intent as an artist. It is a necessary step on a path to showing and selling work.
Here is my revised artist statement:
My name is Andrew. I paint. I hope you enjoy my work. same.
